Read Me First, SDI, MS DOS Version

Since the printing of the SDI documentation, several changes have been made to
the software which are discussed in this standard text file. To make a hard
copy of this file, make sure your printer is connected and on line and type
"copy sdi.txt prn:" and press enter.

SOUND, MUSIC, AND PAUSE GAME: These features may be toggled off and on by
using the F-1 key for sound, the F-2 key for music, and the P key for pause.
If you press one of these keys and nothing seems to happen, try toggling the
key later or in another scene.

JOYSTICK/KEYBOARD: SDI may be played entirely from the keyboard or by using a
combination of keyboard and joystick control. The game cursor direction may be
controlled using any of the respective cursor keys (number pad keys, all MS DOS
machines, or arrow keys on some MS DOS machines) or by moving the joystick in
the respective direction (right, left, up or down). Pressing the space bar to
select an option is the equivalent of pressing a joystick button. You will
still need to use the keyboard for increasing and decreasing fighter speed, (+
and - keys), docking the fighter, (D key), scanning, (S key), and repairing
satellites, (R key).

HARD DISK INSTALLATION: SDI may be installed on and operated from any
directory on your hard disk. To install SDI, change your hard disk directory
to the directory that will contain SDI. At the C> prompt, with the original
disk in drive a:, type "copy a:*.*", followed by <enter>. The game data will
be read from the floppy disk and written onto your hard drive. To play SDI,
make the hard disk directory containing SDI the current directory, insert the
original program disk in drive a:, and type "SDI" followed by <enter>. SDI
will begin booting on drive c:, verify authenticity on a:, and continue to
boot up on drive c:.

THE END

The following keyboard commands are available:

+- Use the plus key (+) to increase your speed. The minus key (-) slows
        your ship down.

D Press "D" to engage docking mode. Maneuver your ship with the cursor
to center one of the two stations inside the red "docking target".
Press the space bar to call up the computer-aided docking sequence.
Press the "D" key again to return to "firing" mode.

S The scanner constantly updates relative positons on a world map.
Rotate your fighter by tapping the joystick to the left or right.
Your ship will move in the direction it's pointing. Accessing the
scanner will return your ship to the correct altitude for docking
and satellite repair. Exit the scanner by pressing space bar.

R Repairing satellites is similar to docking. When the damaged
satellite is centered in your green "repair target" push the space
bar. Press "R" again to exit repair mode.
