The A9, first in the Cruiser tank series, replaced the obsolete 1920's-era
Medium Mk II. The cost cutting was a primary consideration in the A9's
design, resulting in very thin armor being used. The A9 carried the 2 lb
anti-tank gun which was sufficient to take out light tanks. Only 140 of these
tanks were built, the A9 was withdrawn from service in 1941.
