The Crusader II was faster and better armored than its predecessor, the
Crusader I, but its 2 lb. gun was no match for the German Army's
Pz III and IV. Despite improvements to the armor, the Crusader was still
vulnerable to most German anti-tank guns. The Crusader I and II became the
most often used tank in Allied desert battles before the arrival of
Sherman tanks. Some 5000 of these tanks were produced before withdrawn from
service in 1943.
