
This was the first version of what the British referred to as the Infantry
"I" tank, whose sole function was to accompany and support infantry.
Matilda I's are small and can be slow, but are well-armored and early in
the war, almost impervious to 37mm guns.  The Matilda I's carried only 
machine guns. so it was only really useful against infantry. Sort of an early
war moving pillbox.
