
The Matilda II Infantry Tank was faster and more heavily armored than its
predecessor, and carried a 2lb gun capable of destroying any German tank in
use in 1940. Its thick hide and well-protected tracks made it virtually
invulnerable to all but the German 88. In fact, in North Africa the Matilda
was dubbed "Queen of the Battlefield." However, its lack of speed in desert
terrain should be noted.
