Upgraded from the Char-B1 in 1937, the Char-B1 bis was the main battle tank
of the French Army in 1940. Considered to be more powerful, it had better
armor, and was fitted with a new turret which carried two machine guns, a
47mm gun, and a 75mm gun. It was effective, but expensive to produce.
Its 47mm gun could defeat most German tanks in 1940, the 75mm gun was only useful
against infantry.
