For most of the Polish and French campaigns, the PZ-IIIe series was
the main battle tank for the Panzer divisions. It was armed with a 37mm
cannon and had decent armor for its time. The 37mm gun could defeat most
early war Allied tanks, but the 37L46 gun had difficulty taking out
heavy tanks like British Matildas. Some 600 tanks of this series were
produced and served until the middle of 1942.
