The King Tiger tank was the heaviest operational tank produced in the war,
and weighed almost 70 tons. Introduced in August 1944, the King Tiger, or
Tiger II, was heavily armored, used an 88mm cannon, and had almost the same
speed as the Tiger. A Tiger-Maus, or "Lion" tank was designed to succeed the
King Tiger, carrying a 150mm cannon, but it did not progress beyond the
design stage.
