The Ki-84 Type 4 Hayate was considered among many to be the most dangerous
Japanese Army fighter bomber. Called the "Frank" by U.S. troops, it was one
of the most formidable Japanese aircraft of the war, being able to outclimb
and outmaneuver several U.S. fighters. The Frank appeared in August, 1944,
and was like the Oscar with its low wing and bubble canopy. It carried a
20mm cannon, 12.7mm machine gun, and could carry several 250lb bombs.
