

To provide a heavily armored assault tank, the M4a3e2 Jumbo was pruduced
in 1944 with an extra 1.5 inches of armor plate on the hull, a new turret
with 6-inch cast armor and a 7-inch thick gunshield. All units orignally
carried a 75mm gun, but early in 1945 they upgunned to a 76mm. The M4a3e2
was nicknamed "Jumbo," and was often used as the lead vehicle when moving
through unfriendly territory.
