BREACHING THE MEUSE May 14th, 1940 -

Having driven through the Ardennes without any losses, the men of the
1st Panzer Division had reached the Meuse River. The French were totally
surprised by the sudden approach of the Germans. Despite their shock, the
French put up a spirited defense and even managed to contain the German
bridgehead. But lacking any armored reinforcements to drive back the Germans,
the French were forced to withdraw. The Fall of France had begun.
