A RIVER CROSSING July 6th, 1941 -

Two weeks into the Barbarossa Campaign the 4th Panzer Army was moving
eastward towards the Dvina River. The men of the 1st Engineer Battalion
of the 7th Panzer Division, near the town of Ulla, began to make a river
crossing of the Dvina. As the engineers made their way, the Soviets
launched a series of counter-attacks to stop them. While the Soviets
came close to destroying the bridgehead, German tactical skill saved the
day.
