MEETING OF THE 2'S December 24th, 1944 -

The German winter offensive in the Ardennes had carried them just to the
edge of the River Meuse. Now, with fuel and supplies nearly exhausted,
the 2nd Panzer Division had come to a halt. Near the town of Dinant, the
2nd Panzer's Reconnaissance Battalion was awaiting resupply, when the U.S.
2nd Armor Division struck. Unable to maneuver properly due to fuel shortages
and heavy Allied air attacks, the Germans were ravaged by the assault. With
their tanks empty of fuel and lacking in ammo, the Germans abandoned their
panzers and retreated. The German offensive in the Ardennes was finished.
