CHRISTMAS GREETINGS December 25th, 1944 -

For days now the men of the 101st Airborne Division had been cut off and
besieged by the Germans. While low on supplies, the American troops knew that
Patton's 3rd Army was on its way to relieve them. The Germans knew it was now
or never and launched one more final assault to take Bastogne. In this attempt
the newly arrived 77th Panzer Grenadier Regiment would hit the U.S. 502nd
Parachute Regiment at the village of Champs. The Germans came close to
breaking the American lines, but thanks to air support and heavy artillery
fire the Germans were driven back. The following day the U.S. 4th Armored
Division drove into Bastogne and ended the siege.
