THE ADMIN BOX Febuary 15th, 1944 -

In early February 1944, the Japanese launched Operation HA-GO. Its goal was
to draw away British units from the Imphal area, for the Japanese were
planning an offensive there the following month. The crack Japanese 55th
Infantry Division surprised the British and by Feb. 8th the 7th Indian
Division was cut off. The Admin Box was a staging and headquarters area for
the 7th Division. Surrounded on all sides, it was defended by a wide variety
of troops, including cooks and office staff. On the 15th the Japanese
launched the first serious attack to take the "Box."
