4 MEG MACHINES
===============
Super Street Fighter II can run on 4 meg machines. However,
it is possible that you may receive a "not enough memory
to run" message as the game attempts to load. If this
happens, you will need to create a boot disk.
Instructions for creating a boot disk are listed below.

BOOT DISKS
===========
A boot disk lets your machine boot from a floppy disk and
will not load memory hungry programs, thus
freeing more memory up for Super Street Fighter II.
to create a boot disk, do the following:

What you need:
 A blank disk for drive A:
 A current list of your config.sys. and autoexec.bat files.

Step 1
From C:\ prompt enter the following command:
"type autoexec.bat |more" (please note there are only two
spaces here, type_autoexec.bat_|more). Write the contents
of this file down for later use. If you have a printer, you
can print the file by typing "print autoexec.bat"

Step 2
From the C:\ prompt enter the following command:
"type config.sys |more" (please note there are only two
spaces here, type_config.sys_|more) Write the contents
of this file down for later use. Again, you may print this
file by typing "print config.sys".

Step 3
From the C:\ prompt enter the following command:
 "Format a: /s" (please note there are two spaces in this
command, Format_a:_/s.)

Step 4
Make sure your new boot disk in drive A.
At A:\ prompt enter the following commands:
"edit config.sys" (please note there is only one space
here, edit_config.sys) This command will bring you to
 a blue screen with the file name config.sys at the top.

 Type the following:

DEVICE= YOUR SOUND DRIVER*

* Where "YOUR SOUND DRIVER" is your sound card
parameters from your original Config.sys file. Some sound
cards do not have information stored in the Config.sys file,
so don't panic if you do not see anything in the original file.

Then SAVE your new CONFIG.SYS file to the diskette in A:

Step 5

Insert boot disk into drive A:
At A:\ prompt enter the following commands:
"edit autoexec.bat" (please note there is only one
space here, edit_autoexec.bat) This command will bring
you a blue screen with the file name autoexec.bat at the top.

Type the following:

PROMPT $P$G
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T3**
(type any additional sound card info if needed)
SET PATH=C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS;C:\

** The SET BLASTER line should be copied from the sound
card in your autoexec.bat file. This line will vary.

Then SAVE your new AUTOEXEC.BAT file to the diskette in A:

Step 6

Restart your computer with the boot disk in the A: drive.
You should now be able to run the game.

SOUND
======

After Super Street Fighter II has installed all the game files, the game
will run the sound card set-up utility. The set-up utility and the AIL
audio libraries used in the game are by Miles Design. This library
supports most major sound cards. If you wish to change your settings
at a later time, you may type SOUND <ENTER> while the root
SSF2 directory to launch the set-up utility.

Sound Questions
=============

Q: I do not have any sound in the game. What do I do?
A: There are many things that may cause this problem.
First, make sure that your speakers are properly plugged into your
sound card and the power is turned on. If this does not help, try
running the sound card set-up utility again. Make sure that the
settings are correct and that the program can detect your card. There are
various versions of some types of cards, so please try all that may apply.
Lastly, check the manual for your sound card and run any
diagnostic utilities that the manufacturer supplies.

Q: Why is the sound fuzzy on my sound card?
A: Some sound cards are not truely 100% SoundBlaster Compatible.
They are often listed simply as SoundBlaster Compatible. Unfortunately,
some of these cards may offer less than optimum audio quality. Other cards
may have problems because they combine an audio card and a game card.
This may cause some conflicts that lead to the fuzzy sound.

MODEM PLAY
============

SUPER STREET FIGHTER II allows play at 9600 baud and above.
While play has been tested on a limited selection of
modems at speeds up to 28.8K, some initialization strings
may only support a baud rate of 9600 baud.

Please consult your modem's technical documentation or the
modem manufacturer technical support lines for information
on initialization strings. Also please read the section entitled
MODEM INITIALIZATION STRINGS.

Modem Play: Startup
================

To play Super Street Fighter II against an opponent please follow these
steps:

1. Turn on your computer and modem.
2. In your Super Street Fighter II directory, type SETCOM and press
<ENTER>
3. Select MODEM LINK from the SETCOM menu.
4. Highlight SERIAL PORT and choose the correct port. Then highlight
BAUD RATE and select the same baud rate as your opponent.
 (Use the directional arrow keys and the <ENTER> key to make selections.)
5. Select MODEM/BAUD SETUP from the menu.
6. Highlight MODEM TYPE and choose a string for your modem.
7. Select EXIT and exit to main Modem menu.
8. Choose PLAYER 1-DIAL to dial a number or PLAYER 2-ANSWER to
answer the phone.
9. If you choose PLAYER 2 - ANSWER, your computer will now wait for
 a call from PLAYER 1.
10. If you choose PLAYER 1- DIAL, enter a phone number and press
<ENTER>. You will now dial the number. You may also store frequently
dialed numbers into your directory area by highlighting the directory area
and typing in the number.
11. If done correctly, the modem should initialize, print out OK and then
dial the number.
12. Once the two modems connect, they should send link data back and
 forth for a couple of seconds and then the game should start.
13. Make sure to go to the OPTION mode to set your controls.
14.  Start fighting!

Direct Serial Link Play
=================
To play Super Street Fighter II in Serial Direct Link Mode, connect two
computers via their serial ports with a null modem cable and have both
players do the following:

1. Switch to the Super Street Fighter directory , type SETCOM and
press the <ENTER> key.
2 . Choose SERIAL DIRECT LINK from the menu.
3. Choose the correct port and speed.
4. Have one player select PLAYER 1 and the other player select PLAYER 2
5. The computers should now link just as in modem play.

Modem Initialization Strings
======================

We have stored a number of 9600 baud initialization strings in the file
SSF2.LST. All of these initialization strings are available in the SETCOM
program. There may be several strings that will work with your
modem, so if one does not work, please try another.

If you cannot get any of the initialization strings to work, please contact
your Modem Manufacturer and ask for a string with the following
parameters:

1.  NO FLOW CONTROL
2.  NO COMPRESSION
3.  NO ERROR CONTROL
4.  BAUD RATE OF 9600.

The Technical Support number for your modem will be listed in the
documentation that came with your modem.

Should you want to EDIT the file and add a your own initialization
string, you may do so. Please note: The SETCOM program does allow
you to save one USER DEFINED string.

MODEM PROBLEMS
=================
Q: My modem connected in a SLOW mode. Why?
A: If either you or your opponent have a 8550 UART or 16450 UART chip,
you will be linked in the SLOW mode due to the speed limitations of
the chip. To find out which UART chip your system has, you can use the
Microsoft Diagnostic (MSD.EXE) utility that came with Windows. Check
the COM port area to determine your chip type.

Q: My modem is not connecting. Why not?
A: Make sure that you have the proper COM port and initialization
string for your modem. If these are correct, you should be able to dial and
answer correctly. If you hear your modems trying to handshake for a
while but get a screen filled with "SENDING LINK DATA", you and your
opponent may be transmitting at different rates. (eg. 9600 and 14.4K)
Please make sure that you and your opponent are transmitting at the
SAME rates.

PERFORMANCE OPTIONS
=====================

Super Street Fighter II has several animation options that help owners
of slower machines optimize their performance. These options are located
in the options menu. They are:

Frame Anim (1-10)
This option set the animation speed by setting skip frames. A
faster computer will need to skip less frames, so a lower number can be
selected. DO NOT worry if you are at a Frame Anim speed of 7 or 8. It may
seem as if you a missing a lot, but what really counts is the balance of
speed vs. animation smoothness.

Color Anim  (1-3)
This option controls how Super Street Fighter II handles color cycling.
Option 1 turns OFF all color cycling. This is best for low end systems.
Option 2 turns ON all color cycling and offers better speed.
Option 3 turns ON all color cycling and offers slightly better visual clarity.

These color anim options are optimized for your machine when the install utility is run.
(That is why you cannot bypass the CAPCOM logo during the install.)
It is recommended that you do not change them and if you do, please
remember the initial settings.

Performance in games such as Super Street Fighter II often rely on the
performance of your video card as much as the speed your CPU.
