###############################################################

If you experience any problems while playing The Dig
in Windows 95, we recommend that you play the game in
MS-DOS mode. This will resolve many problems found when
playing in Windows 95. You should first try playing by
clicking on Play the Dig in DOS. If you continue to
experience problems, try the following suggestions:

1) MAKE A BOOT DISK
   ----------------
If you continue to experience problems, please make a Boot
Disk using the boot maker utility which is included on the
The Dig CD. (Since Allboot is a DOS based program,
we only recommend that Windows 95 users make a boot disk
if they CANNOT play in Windows 95.) You must have DOS
CD-ROM, sound card, and mouse drivers installed in MS-DOS
mode for the boot maker utility to work correctly.

Making a Boot Disk - Windows 95 Users
   -------------------------------------
    * Make sure the The Dig CD is in your system's
      CD-ROM drive.
    * Click the Start button and choose Run.
    * Type D:\ALLBOOT (or the letter of your CD-ROM drive if
other than D) and click on OK. Follow the prompts on
the screen. When it prompts you to Format another, type
      N and press <Enter>.
    * Once the boot disk is made, reboot your system from the
boot disk. Do this by rebooting or restarting your system
with the boot disk in the A: drive. (Because the boot
disk is in your A: drive, your system will automatically
boot up in the Windows 95 version of DOS.)
    * At the C:\LUCASARTS BOOT DISK> prompt, switch to your
      CD-ROM drive and run DIG.EXE.

Making a Boot Disk - DOS Users
   ------------------------------
To make a boot disk, change to your CD-ROM drive (drive D
on most computers) and type ALLBOOT. Follow the prompts on
the screen to make the Boot Disk. When it prompts you to
Format another disk, type N and press <Enter>.
    * Once the boot disk is made, reboot your system from the
boot disk. Do this by rebooting or restarting your system
with the boot disk in the A: drive.
    * At the C:\LUCASARTS BOOT DISK> prompt, switch to your
      CD-ROM drive and run DIG.EXE.

Note: After making the bootdisk, check the autoexec.bat
file on the bootdisk to make sure that the MSCDEX
buffer is set to 4. This is the "m:" value in the
          MSCDEX line.

2) DOS4GW.EXE CONFLICTS
   --------------------
If The DIG still crashes after making a Boot Disk, you may
have hardware that conflicts with the DOS extender used by
The DIG. To replace the version of the DOS extender that
The DIG uses to run, you can try using the four different
versions of DOS4GW that are available by going to the Game
Crash Issues section of the DOS Troubleshooting Guide and
clicking on the different version numbers. You can also
switch to the SUPPORT directory to read the instructions
for replacing the DOS extender. The instructions are con-
tained in a file called README. (If the drive letter of
your CD-ROM is D:, at the D:\> prompt type CD SUPPORT and
then press Enter. At the D:\SUPPORT> prompt, type EDIT
README and follow the instructions for replacing your DOS
    extender).

3) COMMON PROBLEMS WHILE RUNNING THE DIG
   -------------------------------------

    Scriptline 39 - Cutscene Overide
    --------------------------------
If you experience this error message and are unable to
get past the rat trap, please visit our web site at
www.lucasarts.com. Go to the Technical Support section,
and look at The Dig Technical document. There is a link
for downloading a saved game to pass this point. This
will allow you to complete the game. If you do not have
Internet access, please call Technical Support and ask
them to send you a saved game.

    CD-ROM Read Errors
    ------------------
Some CD-ROM drives may have trouble reading The Dig CD.
This is because the CD holds 648MB of data, which fills
the CD to its capacity. Unfortunately, some drives are
unable to read to the outer edges of the CD. For more
information on CD-ROM access errors, please refer to the
DOS or Windows 95 Troubleshooting Guides, accessible
    through The Dig's launcher menu.

    2001 Error/Page Granular
    ------------------------
System may be experiencing difficulty with the current
version of DOS4GW or it may have less than 8 MB of RAM.
Check to make sure that you meet the System Requirements
      for The Dig.
Check the amount of memory on your system by typing mem
      at the dos prompt.
Check the online Troubleshooting Guide to see if your
CD-ROM drive had problems when being tested with The Dig.
Try all 4 versions of DOS4GW. Please check above under
DOS4GW Conflicts for information about the different ways
      to install the various versions.
Make a bootdisk and use it. Make sure that the MSCDEX
buffer is set to 4. This is the "m:" value in the MSCDEX
line, which is found in the autoexec.bat file on the
      bootdisk.
Delete the game, boot up from boot disk, reinstall
      and try running game

4) TECHNICAL SUPPORT
   -----------------
If you are continuing to have technical difficulties with
this product, please contact the LucasArts Technical Support
department. If you contact us by phone, we recommend that
you are at your computer so that we can assist you more
quickly. It is also helpful to have a list of your machine's
current hardware and software configurations. Please DO NOT
call technical support if you have NOT first tried to
resolve your problem by making a boot disk using the game's
   Boot Maker Utility.
