GENERAL JOYSTICK CALIBRATION

Should the joystick become mis-calibrated
in the menu screens, holding down the TAB
key will temporarily disable joystick input.
Use the mouse or keyboard to move to the
Controls Setup screen and select Calibrate
Joystick.

WINDOWS95 JOYSTICK CALIBRATION

If you experience problems calibrating your
joystick in Windows95, first try calibrating
it using the "Joystick" control panel; be
sure to set it to the appropriate settings
for your joystick.

JOYSTICK CONFIGURATION UTILITY (JCU)

If you still experience problems getting THE
NEED FOR SPEED(TM) SPECIAL EDITION to
recognize your controller properly, you can
use the "Joystick Configuration Utility"
included on your game CD-ROM. The Joystick
Configuration Utility contains a list of
preset controller configurations which you
may choose from, and it also provides the
ability for you to custom configure your own
unique controller values such as button
remapping, button enabling and disabling,
axis remapping, etc. Actual instructions for
using this utility are available once it is
run. To use this utility, refer to the
reference card accompanying the game CD.

FORCE FEEDBACK CONTROLLERS

NFS SPECIAL EDITION includes support for
the Immersion Corporation "I-Force" driver
which will be supported by forthcoming force-
feedback devices from hardware
manufacturers. While we have tested the game
with prototype devices using the I-Force
driver, production units from hardware
manufacturers were not yet available to us at
the time this game became available in stores.
Nonetheless, we have made it possible for
users to enable the I-Force driver support
using the Joystick Configuration Utility (see
above).

MOUSE CONTROL

If you select mouse steering in the Controls
Setup screen, it is recommended that you
decrease the sensitivity of your mouse. Under
Windows95 this can be done Joystick
control panel. For MS-DOS, you must have a
utility included with your mouse software to
adjust its parameters.
