CHOPPY OR STUTTERING VIDEOS

If the video played during the test stutters,
skips frames, or plays corrupted music it is
possible that your CD-ROM drive does not
meet MPC 2 standards for data through-put
of 300 K/sec. For proper video playback, THE
NEED FOR SPEED(TM) SPECIAL
EDITION requires a CD-ROM drive that
conforms to the MPC2 standard.

If your CD-ROM drive is not 100% MPC2
compatible, you will need to DISABLE videos in
the Install Program.

WINDOWS95 VIDEO PROBLEMS

If running under Windows95, choppy or
stuttering video or audio problems may be
improved by disabling the CD-ROM read-ahead
buffer. This option is available by right-
clicking on your local drive, selecting
Properties, then Performance, File System,
CD-ROM and choosing "No read-ahead" from
the menu. Note: This may slow down load
times between screens in the game. Installing
more files to the hard drive from the Install
Program may alleviate load time problems.

Another possible method that can be used to
alleviate video stuttering under Windows95 is
to manually add or edit the following lines to
the "[vcache]" section of the SYSTEM.INI file
to read: MinFileCache=512, and
MaxFileCache=1024. This will restrict the
amount of memory Windows95 will use for its
filesystem, and make more memory available
for the game.

Only run the game in a full-screen; do not run
the game in a window.
